Bradstowe Lodge Care Home, Broadstairs

The project consisted of full and complete demolition of the existing annexe structure, link elements and boundary wall enabling a new 3 storey extension to be constructed.

Extensive refurbishment work of the existing structure was also undertaken which included new electrics and plumbing, redecoration throughout, new flooring and window replacement. New lighting was also installed along with an up to date fire precaution system. A platform lift to enable disabled access was also installed.

External work involved hard landscaping of outside areas to form ramp and ambulant stepped access to the premises.

The completed Care Home now boasts 26 rooms, all with en-suite facilities.

One of the main challenges of the project was that the care home is located at the heart of the seafront in Broadstairs, therefore not only aesthetically did the structure have to be of the highest quality, but logistically all deliveries and site activity had to be carefully coordinated with the local authorities to minimise disruption to local residents and holidaymakers. The many trades on site also had to be carefully coordinated by our site manager as did all site activity when the building became partially re-occupied.

The finished care home is an excellent example of the quality of work D.J. Ellis Construction Ltd can produce and how old and new can be seamlessly blended to quite stunning effect. The project also achieved an award for Health and Safety Excellence from H & K Safety Services Ltd.

Working closely with the client and their appointed Architect the project was completed successfully within the contract period and budgetary constraints.
